Mats Roolvink is a 23-year-old award-winning Bass-Baritone and a 5th generation Young Artist at Opera Fuoco Paris.  

Mats' darkly colored and mature sound is uniquely suited for the baroque and oratorio repertoire.  He is also developing his opera repertoire with roles such as Guglielmo in Cosi Fan Tutte, Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro, and Colline in La Boheme. 

On the competition front, Mats is the 2020 Winner of the American Prize in Art Song & Oratorio (College Division), 3rd Prize Winner at the 2020 Alida Vane International Singing Competition in Latvia, 3rd Prize Winner at the 2019 Neapolitan Masters Competition Young Singers Category in Naples Italy, and a Finalist at the 2020 American Vocal Arts International Collegiate Singing Competition.  In 2020, Mats qualified for the Met Council Auditions.  

Mats is the Scholarship recipient of the 2020 Oper Oder-Spree International Summer Opera Workshop in Beeskow Germany.  He also received a scholarship in 2019 to attend Manchester Music Festival’s Stratton Mountain Vocal Workshop in Vermont USA with Maestro Warren Jones. 

Highlights of Mats' career include his 2019 operatic debut at Lyric Opera Studio Weimar’s production of Le Nozze di Figaro, playing the title role. In 2020, he made his concert debut with The Prussian Chamber Orchestra at Kloster Neuzelle and Burg Beeskow Germany.  In the same year, he performed as a Johannes Passion soloist at the Arsenal Metz in France. with Le Concert Lorrain.   

As a member of the Salzburger BachChor, Mats has performed in the ensemble of Salzburg Easter Festival’s productions of Tosca with Christian Thielemann and Anja Harteros, as well as in the ensemble of Mozart Week’s THAMOS with Rene Pape and Alondra de lar Parra, both held at the Salzburg Festspielehaus. 

Mats will receive his Bachelor's Degree in Voice at Mozarteum University Salzburg in 2021.  His professors include Barbara Bonney, Andreas Macco, and Kjellaug Tesaker 


Other Masterclass teachers include David Stern and Inva Mula at Opera Fuoco, Peter Kooij at Le Concert Lorrain Baroque Academy, Thomas Hampson at BUTI, Don Marrazzo at Magreet Honiq Summer Academy, Karlheinz Hanser at Academia Vocalis, and Stephen West at Bel Canto Academy Florence. 

Fluent in English, German, Dutch, in addition to basic Italian, Chinese and Japanese, Mats has lived, studied and performed across 3 continents including Germany, Austria, Italy, Netherlands, USA, Singapore, and Japan.
