Mats is a 21-year-old Dutch American voice student at Mozarteum University in Salzburg Austria. In Summer 2019, Mats made his opera debut in the role of Figaro in Lyric Opera Studio Weimar's production of Le Nozze di Figaro in Germany. He will make his role debut in the Netherlands as Claudio in International Belcanto Academy and Opera Noord-Holland-Noord’s production of Agrippina in September 2020.

Mats is one of the 11 finalists in American Vocal Arts’ 2020 International Collegiate Singing Championship. He won a full scholarship to study with Mastro Pianist Warren Jones at the Manchester Music Festival Vocal Workshop in Vermont in summer 2019. He is also the 3rd Prize Winner of the inaugural Neapolitan Masters International Singing Competition Young Singer Category.
As a member of the Salzburg BachChor, Mats performed in the ensemble of Salzburg Easter Festival’s productions of Don Carlo and Tosca with Christian Thielemann and Anja Harteros as well as Mozart Week's Production of THAMOS with Alondra de la Parra and Rene Pape. Other ensemble work included Mozarteum’s production of Les Contes d’Hoffmann and Der Kleine Prinz by Association of Innovative Music Projects Salzburg. He also participated in Salzburg Festival’s groundbreaking production of Aida with Riccardo Muti and Anna Netrebko.
Masterclass teachers include Thomas Hampson at BUTI, Don Marrazzo at Magreet Honiq Summer Academy, Karlheinz Hanser at Academia Vocalis, Stephen West at Bel Canto Academy Florence.
Born in Singapore, Mats joined the \school choir in 2008, performing in various school musicals and concerts in Singapore. Mats started opera training in 2013. From 2014 to 2016, he studied at the Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Boston with Ms. Angela Gooch and Mr. Gary Durham.
Mats is the Winner of Classical Music for 16-18 age group at the National Association of Teachers for Singing (NATS) Massachusetts State in 2014 and came in 2nd at the Peter Elvins Vocal Competition Teen Division in 2016. He is also one of the 2016 Top 40 US High School Classical Singers.
Mats has performed in recitals around the world including Germany, Austria, Italy, Netherlands, Japan, and USA. He held his first solo recital at the Esplanade Recital Studio in Singapore for over 200 guests with the guest of honor being the Ambassador of Netherlands in June 2015 and again in February 2018.
