Mats Roolvink is a young, promising Dutch-American Bass-Baritone equally versatile in the Opera and Baroque repertoire.  


Mats made his opera debut as Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro in Weimar Germany in 2020.  He followed up with role debut as Colline in La Boheme in Paris France in 2021.  

As a Masterclass Scholarship recipient, Mats has performed on the concert stages of Bayreuth Festival as well as the Opera Gala Festival of Oper Oder-Spree in Germany with the Prussian Chamber Orchestra conducted by Vinzenze Weisenberger. 

On the Baroque front, Mats has participated and performed in masterclasses with leading Baroque artists such as Paul Agnew at Les Arts Florissants, Vivica Genaux at Fondazione Giorgio Cini, and Peter Kooij at Le Concert Lorraine. Mats' early music repertoire include Handel, Bach, Purcell, as well as some of the Renaissance masters.

As an award-winning young singer, Mats has qualified for the upcoming Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition in Dublin, Ireland in 2022 as well as the Metropolitan Council Auditions in 2021.  He is the First Prize Winner of the American Prize Competition in Art Song & Oratorio for College Division, 3rd Prize Winner of the Alida Vane International Singing Competition in Latvia, and 3rd Prize Winner of the Neapolitan Masters Competition in Naples Italy. 

Since 2017, Mats has performed extensively as a member of Salzburger BachChor on the stages of Salzburg Festival with leading composers such as Christian Thielemann, Ricardo Multi, Alondra de la Parra in opera productions ranging from Lohengrin, Tosca, Aida, and THAMOS.  Concert performance included Haydn's Creation and Mahler's Das Klagende Lied.

Mats will complete his Bachelor's in Gesang from Mozarteum University Salzburg with Professors Andreas Macco and Barbara Bonney in 2022. He will subsequently join a major State Opera Studio in Bavaria Germany in the upcoming 2022-2023 season in combination with studying for a Master's degree in Opera Studies at a leading German conservatory.  

Mats comes from a diverse, multinational background.  Born in Singapore to Dutch and Chinese American parents, he completed the final two years of high school at Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Boston before moving to Europe to further his studies.  Besides English, Mats is fluent in German, Dutch and also speaks basic Italian, Mandarin and Japanese.
